Im a clozapine patient, 100 mg oraly every night, this to treat my psychosissymptoms. The drug is functioning very well for me. I know 100 mg is a low dose and I plan to, hopefully, reduce to 75 or possibly 50 mg in a couple of months. I have not much sideeffects, bad memory is the worst one and in a mild form.
Now, to the issue att hand: I believe the whole world are pretty spooked about the possible scenario of a global pandemia by the H5N1-virus, more commonly known as the "bird flu". The WHO has warned about this and experts estimate that up to 400 million(!!) people would die if a pandemia unleashes on the world. The virus is very deadly, the death rate is up to 70 percent even though expert has suggested that the virus may became less viscious if it mutates into form where its spread from human being to human being like a "normal" influenza. None the less, it would be a major major disaster and it has been said that its not a question if this will happen, the question is rather WHEN (this was stated by WHO in early 2005).
Now, as all clozapine/clozaril patients know, 1-2 percent of us can develop a syndrom where the whit bloodcells are whiped out and our bodies have no defense against viruses and infections, this is why we have to take bloodtests reguraly. The white bloodcells are exactly what is your only defense against a virus like H5N1 (birdflu). And if you look at the listed sideeffects with clozapine, one of the most common IS lower white bloodcell count!!! So even if your doctor says you are ok on the bloodtest, you can actually have a bad defense against viruses and infections.
With this said, I would like to know if this has been discussed by medical professionals?? Is there any type of plan for us clozapine-patients if 5the H5N1-virus will hit the world with a global pandemia?? Are my fears ungrounded?? Should we clozapine-patients satck up on medicine like TAMIFLU??
I urge everyone on Clozapine/Clozaril to take this up to discussion with your psychiatrist or psycholog!! THIS IS A VERY URGENT ISSUE!!! THE PRIZE CAN BE YOUR LIFE!!
I myself live in sweden, europe. I will take this up with MY psychiater. If you want, please contact me: jonk_5@hotmail.com

hi, what is the relation between the two.you are talking of two different issues here.. Please tell me which problem exactly are you facing.. why should you stack tamiflu for antidepressants.. Tamiflu is for Tamiflu is a medicine to treat flu infection caused by influenza virus. It belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. These medications attack the influenza virus and prevent it from spreading inside your body. It treats flu at its source by attacking the virus that causes the flu, rather than simply masking symptoms. I hope this clarifies your point. If you still feel you need to know more please read http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s3353-s-TAMIFLU.aspx This will explain why tamiflu is given. .

First of all, CLOZAPINE is NOT an antideppressant, its a "atypical neuroleptica" (translated from swedish..)
It seems that you are not aware of the specific dangers that come with the adminstration of CLOZAPINE/CLOZARIL.
1-2 percent of the users suffers from a clozapine-induced syndrom that makes the body unable to produce white bloddcells. If you get an infection during this syndrome you will die. This because the white blodcells are your bodies armor and defense against infections. This is why all patients on CLOZAPINE/CLOZARIL has to take bloodtest often and reguraly. As I said, this happens to 1-2 percent of the patients on CLOZAPINE, since the bloodtest monitoring began there are very few cases that resulted in deaths.
But even if youre NOT one of the unlucky ones who get this syndrome one of the most common side-effects from CLOZAPINE is lowered immunesystem and a lesser count of bloodcells. This makes your body an easier target for disease and the body has lowered defense against diseases. Because of this, anyone on CLOZAPINE/CLOZARIL will have a lesser chance in the event of an global "birdflu"-pandemia. We will die easier than the average man..
CLOZAPINE lowers your defense against infections like H5N1. And H5N1 is nasty already with a very high deathrate.

Hi Hype, I agree with you. Thank you for giving detailed information about side effects of Clozapine. As for H5N1, it must be discussed with psychiatrist. Thanks again. ANS
