hello,
Just recently, we have been perscribed risperidone for my 6yr old step son... I was overwhelmed that on top of ADHD, we were now informed that he needed yet another medication...
He goes through these fits where when he doesn't get his own way, he will yell and scream and throw himself all around... these fits mainly take place when his father is at work... this to me was very hard to see in such a smart child... I was reading the use of the medicaiton and it scares me to see treatment for bipolar 1 disorder and schizophrenia... I am trying to understand all of this and anyone with some insight would be greatly appreciated... We just started him on the medication today and I was wondering how will it work and how long will it take to reach the right dose? We were told that we will have to increase the risperidone by the doctors advise, maybe every two weeks...but is that long enough to see if it is going to work?
thank you for any advice or help you could offer!!
[Confused]

my 9 year old son has recently been prescribed risperidone. he has autistic traits and is epileptic. he aso has a speech and language disorder.his behaviour and aggression has been really difficult to control for some time. i was very apprehensive about the risperidone but iv got to say in the short time he has been taking it there has been a big change in him.he is much calmer and less frustrated, he seems much happier than he has for a long time.
