My 13 year old son started 5 mg lisinopril about 3 weeks ago due to his blood pressure being elevated every time he would have to see his doctor. Two weeks ago, after football practice his whole body, literally was in cramps. During the practice, the coaches had to put ice on him 4 times and made him drink lots of fluids. He was on the floor and could not move so I called an ambulance. After arriving at the hospital they gave him an IV and he felt much better. Last night was his first game and in the 3rd quarter, after making a tackle, fell to the ground in pain. He was finally able to make it to the sideline. He even went back in for four plays before taking himself out. He collasped on the sideline and was taken by ambulance, again, to the hospital where he was given another IV. All his tests are coming back ok - potassium was fine - sodium was a couple of points below normal. This pain he has is the worse he's ever felt. He's had cramps before in his legs but nothing like this. His stomach, chest, and even his hands curl up. Has ANY one out there had this happen? His doc said the lisinopril should not be causing this, but his dad and I are taking him off this drug for a couple of weeks and are going to take him blood pressure morning and night and record it. If it stays down we'll keep him off - if not I'll let his doc know to put him on something different. Like I said, he's 13 and he's 5'8" and 198 lbs. Very athletic. ANY info anyone can share is greatly appreciated!
