I have been on Geodon for 3 weeks at 160mg/day, and decided to quit last evening. I went down to taking 80mg every 16 hours, and decided last evening to quit taking it. The side effects were terrible, including back spasms.

Has anyone experienced bad side effects with only taking it for 3weeks? So far after 24 hours I still experience muscle tightening.

The doctor lied his *** off when he said that there were no side effects. I checked the internet - the man lied - outright lied. I tried toughing through the side effects to no avail, and now must quit on my own or risk a slipped disk or worse withdrawal later.

I am currently taking Geodon and I do not mind at all being on it. I just wanted to state, though, that if I miss one dose it is all over, meaning that I feel physically horrible. I am currently taking 180mg and previously was taking 120mg (nightly). On the 120mg dose I skipped a dose on purpose because I did not go to bed until 230 am and I knew I would have trouble waking up if I took the Geodon. Well the night before last, on the 180mg dose I skipped a dose because I had ran out of Geodon. Both times, my sleep was horrible, the next day was completely physically miserable. I felt this physical burning throughout my entire body, kind of like electricity, which was most prominent in my head. My sinuses burned, I felt nauseated. etc. Yesterday, during the day I scrounged up enough samples that I took my full 180mg dose and within one hour I felt almost completely better physically, feeling completely better after a few hours. I wouldn't say that Geodon is evil. In my situation it is making my life livable. I just do not want to miss a dose. It is then that it becomes evil.

I have been on Geodon for probably a year or so now, and I tried to get off it at one point as well. I was having muscle weakness as a side effect at the higher doses (180 mg), so my doctor suggested that I go back on my old Zoloft dose (I had maxed out on the Zoloft dosage and was no longer getting any effect from it or any other antidepressant available, so that's when my doctor suggested the Geodon). The day after I stopped taking the Geodon, I started having withdrawal symptoms. Shakiness, sweating profusely, strange feelings in my head, unable to sleep, etc. It lasted for 2 days until I called my doctor and told her that I wanted to go back on the Geodon, becuase it was actually working for my depression. I was starting to feel lousy even though I was on the Zoloft again, and I knew that it would take weeks for the Zoloft to kick in again. I went back on the Geodon but at a lower dose and have slowly worked my way up to 120 mg. Now I am scared to death to get off it because I don't want to go through those awful withdrawal symptoms again. But it costs soooo much money! Over $500 is what we had to pay after my husband lost his job and we lost our insurance coverage! Geodon has worked wonders for my depression and I actually was able to get a job and go to school again, but it is a scary drug. I have also been having memory problems with the Geodon. I can't remember what I did earlier in the day it's so bad. Before we lost our insurance, the company sent us information on alternative drugs to Geodon because it was moving up to the third tier and was going to get expensive. They suggested Seroquel and Risperdal as alternatives. They are cheaper but I'm not sure how well they work for depression. Seroquel is a bad one because it can cause weight gain, my doctor told me. But she said the Risperdal option was always open if I wanted it.
