i've been dealing with severe refractory depression combined with a major anxiety disorder for the last 10 years. i'm not diagnosed as being bipolar but rather unipolar. i've tried every antidepressant out there combined with wellbutrin plus a few others, ie. risperidone, lamotrigine. i've been taking sleeping pills (imovane) and clonazepam to put me to sleep at night. i forgot what feeling "happy & alive" was until i started the ziprasidone. in the beginning at 40mg i felt wonderful but i became manic and went through this cleaning mania including washing dishes all the time and feeling like i was on speed combined with had those "acid eyes". i couldn't shut up either and i became verbally abusive to my fiance. i split the dose to 20mg in the am and 20mg in the pm. this controlled the mania but my engery and modivation is gone. now i'm tolerating my depression but i can feel it creeping back along with the anxiety.

it sounds like coming off ziprasidone isn't a party but i'm debating on whether to stop the ziprasidone because of weight gain. i put on alot of weight (15 lbs) when i started risperidone, another 10 lbs on lamotrigine and another 8 since starting ziprasidone 2 months ago. if there is a possibility of weight gain in any drug, i seem to put it on. being depressed doesn't help the situation and i can't afford to keep buying larger sizes in clothing. it's seems that i have to make a choice between feeling better or gaining 30 plus pounds (and still gaining). has anyone experienced weight gain on ziprasidone?
p.s. i also have chronic active hep c which has caused cirrhosis in my liver. extra weight does not make for a happy liver.
thanx for letting me vent
