My mother was prescribed Nortriptyline for the treatment of depression, but she could not tolerate the drug and she is experiencing a great deal of discomfort due to a lingering side effect even though she has been off the medication for some time. Her general practitioner diagnosed the condition as burning mouth syndrome and she has seen several very well-respected doctors in the area who have confirmed that diagnosis, but they are unable to offer any relief from the constant discomfort. She says her mouth burns constantly and worsens when she eats, but it just will not stop. Again, the doctors agree that this is a known side effect of Nortriptyoine, but nobody seems to know what to do about it. I am researching this for her in hopes of finding someone in the medical community who understands this condition and can offer a helpful solution or another Nortriptyline user who has experienced this same thing and was fortunate enough to find a remedy and who will share it with me. She has had to live with this for several years and it is causing her a great deal of discomfort. Can someone out there relate to this at all and give me something in the way of some very helpful information?
