i haven t heard about skin rash as being a side effect, but i can tell you that with most meds it is not recommendable to take them on an empty stomach.
I will look out for similar comments from other people, thanks

Anabel, My wife (Rebecca) and I are having a baby, due sometime in December, the doctors haven't made their minds up as yet, there has been quite a few complications. A contributing factor has been Bec's mytral Valve relapse, for which she has recently been prescribed metoprolol. We are somewhat concerned about any affects that may be transfered to the baby through the placenta and again during breast-feeding... Information on metoprolol is very limited at present. do you have any sources you may be able to pass on. Thanks

My Cardiologist prescribed Metoprolol as a beta-blocker along with Rythmol to control atrial fibrilation. A nice balance has been found and the purpose is being met. The reduction in blood pressure was a welcome side-effect. Then my Urologist prescribed Terazosin to relax my bladder / prostate. That too works as intended, but my blood pressure has dropped to an alarming level--recently 105/56. My GP and two specialists debate. I wait.

momofboys- I just started metoprolol 2 weeks ago and I'm having terrible fluid retention. Does anyone know if this is a normal side effect that will go away? I'm also taking Maxzide, but that doesn't seem to be countering the retention. I haven't had any muscle pain, but have gained 8 lbs in two weeks.

My problem with toprol XL when taken 1 in AM and 1 in PM, I developed severe sleep apnea. eliminated the PM and the apnea stopped. Otherwise it is very effective in lowering bp

I am also losing my hair on legs and under arms (no hair). Bloating, weight gain, legs swelling. Leg pain and cramping - I take quinine because the leg cramps are very bad. I take spironolactone for the fluid retention. I have reflux disease, so I don't think my swallowing difficulty and gas problems are from this medicine.

anabe, Important to take Lopressor once a day cause it takes about 12 hours to clear the system. If take several times a day, it can build up in the system and create chills, or sensitivity to air temps and even a clamy slightly moist skin at times.... which adds to the feeling of a chill.

Hi Anabel, I was first prescribed this medicine in June of 2003, for Atrial fibrillation. I have psoriasis and shortly after I began taking this medicine my psoriasis flared. Then it moved into my joints, all the time my doctors assured me it had nothing to do with this medication. However in June 2004 I quit taking the medicine, and my psoriasis imediately began to improve. In October 2004 I started having PVCs and Toprol XL was prescribed, and again my psoriasis flared, and I had an acute gout attack. My doctors are fed up with me and just want me out of their lives now. They act like I'm too much work for their measly pay. I found a new doctor who seems willing to work through these and find some course of treatment that will benefit me.
