I was recently informed that an old friend, now 40 years old had severe ulcerative colitis. He endured quite a few surgeries, illeostomy, reversal, etc. Due to this condition he was put on prednisone. He now needs a hip replacement. His doctors said he has the worst case of gout they have ever seen. He will undergo this surgery tomorrow at Mayo Clinic. People need to know the side effects and risks of taking prednisone. I was on it due to pneumonia 2x, in the last 2.5 years. Since I have experienced gout,(as did my friend), and very achey joints, hips, etc. I'm 41 yrs old. Fortunately I try to stay active and am realitivley healthy. But I feel this drug is dangerous and should require warnings as well as further study. Thank you, pray for my friend.

Everybody is talking about this prednisone steroid and I was wondering if it can be used for woking out considering it is a steroid. I know what it is used for and I know using steroids is not allowed, but I'm no proffesional athlet I just want help working out because I can't gain muscle very easily and I have access to this steroid. I wish I had access to more common steroids for working out but I don't so I have work with what's available and prednisone is. Can anyone answere my question.

You need to be aware that one of the side effects of Prednisone is muscle wasting. My son has taken it off and on for ulcerative colitis and experiences terrible headaches, leg cramps, gnawing hunger, sleeplessness, and shaking when he is on it. PLEASE do not take this drug unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary!!

What was the dosage and his weight, and how long was he on it?
