Ive been taking Trazodone for about 6 months now and for the last two weeks Ive been using grapefruit seed extract. A friend mentioned that I shouldnt be eating grapefruits and I wonder if grapefruit seed extract would have the same effect? I also think its a little late, since its been two weeks. What if I dont feel any difference?

I just read somewhere about trazodone to ask your doctor about drinking grapefruit juice. I've been on trazodone for about 13 years now. I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and I can't sleep at night without some help. I got on a grapefruit kick recently, pink grapefruit to be exact, and was eating it every night for about two weeks. I really didn't notice any difference at all in the effect of the medication on my sleep or during the next day. Maybe it's a situation where you have to consume lots of it before it affects the medication.

How is the trazodone doing for you otherwise? It's like a miracle drug for me. I like the sedative effect and the fact that I can get that from something that is not a narcotic. Usually within 20-30 minutes of taking it I need to be very near the bed so I can fall in it and go to sleep. It works that fast and thorough.

This is interesting. I'm not supposed to eat grapefruit because I take lovastatin but I'd never heard of any effect with trazodone.

My doctor had prescribed 25mg of trazodone to be taken at bedtime to help me sleep after switching meds for narcolepsy that didn't work well.
Grapefruit is the only citrus fruit I can eat, oranges & tangerines make me itch.
I still eat grapfruit but not just before or after taking the lovastatin. I take that in the evening and eat grapefruit during the day.
I seem to crave this during the winter time...don't know why.
