Hi Kasha,

I was never yet prescribed trazodone, but why don't you ask your doctor for his advice? Good luck and keep us posted!!

I just started Trazodone. What is everyone's experience with this drug? Did it help with your depression and/or sleep?

I haven't noticed a difference in my depression (although I also take 75 mg of Effexor a day), but it does help me sleep. My doctor has me take 100 mg (2 pills) of Trazodone every night. Before, my insomnia was so bad that I would only get an hour of sleep total a night, and I would wake up every 20 minutes. Now I get at least 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night. It still isn't much, but it helps.

I have just started trazodone because of insomnia. The doc has me on 0.5 mg of klonipan and 50 mgs. of trazodone. I was curious to know how it helps the sleep and if anyone has had success with this drug for insomnia. Thanks!

I used the same medication for several months to battle a lack of sleep from anxiety. It worked well and yes I put on a few pounds.

I have another window to another site.
Yes, take it with food.
Rumor claims that this drug can cause weight gain. I'd not really worry about that too much.
Kasha! Get some blood tests. Check cryoglobulins.
Sounds like you've got another issue going on like fibromialgia. Your symptoms are not listed in the side effects. BTW: Males must be very careful with this drug. Can have horrible side effects for them. Hey, guys, do the research or you could have one painful experience if you're male.
This drug is one of the oldest and safest of all the anti-depressants. If it's an old drug, more is known about it. Many a physician and psych. feel very comfortable rx'ing this drug over many other drugs. It's a starting point.
It's awesome for sleep.
Give it a little time and always, always ask your doctor if you can lower or raise your dosage as this needs adjusting as each of us is different.
Physicians start with a standard dosage or a small one then should adjust to the individual's needs. Good luck!

I suffer from insomnia & was just prescribed trazodone yesterday. I am taking 25mg. How long will it take to help with sleep? I didnt do good last night. I hate to call the dr & forgot to ask how long it would take to work. Any comments would be appreciated.

trazadone did not help me sleep, felt worse,
and I had terrible knee pain with just 2 pills.
I have arthritis in the knees & it seems to aggravate it. I am so discouraged, going back to tylenol pm.
