I had been taking Thioridazine for about 12 years up until november 2004. I had tried various other medications for the anxiety/depression that i had been diagnosed with in 1992, but to no avail. The first time i took Thioridazine, i was rushed to the emergency clinic the following day (christmas night) with what i can best describe as 'having jawlock'. I had been feeling very drowsy all day but that night i was absolutely terrified. My jaw felt like it was twisting & i thought i would swallow my tongue ! Looking back, i have never been so scared in all my life ! I was given a jab & kept under supervision for a few hours until the drug wore off. I was then sent home & given Procyclidine pills that i should take with Thioridazine to ward off any similar occurences. I started on 100mg then very slowly over the years reduced this to 10mg, when in late 2004 i started taking Paroxetine 30mg. I was allowed to take both providing i did'nt take more than 10mg of Thioridazine. I have since read on the web that these should never be taken together. However i quickly adjusted to Paroxetine & felt no need to take both. More than 2 years on & i feel great; back in full time work & living life to the full. Thioridazine was no 'magic fix' but helped to lower the anxiety 50%. I also drank heavily to dampen the other 50%. I have been told i may have heart problems in later life due to taking the drug for such a long time. However another psychiatrist said i probably wouldn't have complications as my dose was quite low. I am now aware this drug has been removed from availability unless the 'gains' outweigh the risks.

I had all but forgotten I had been on this drug many years ago before I began treatment for narcolepsy.
I had a major depression after my cat was killed, 4 months later best friend was murdered by her ex and then I had a breakup with a boyfriend in that same month. I couldn't handle all the problems of day to day living & cope with the losses.

This drug had some strange effects...it knocked me out cold but I would dream of policemen running around in my head trying to find a short circuit. I guess that's what it does..short circuit something...but don't know how or why.
